I have a friend that's half dominican and half Puerto Rican (and he was born in the DR). He told me that the majority of both nationalities are pretty much light skinned black people with the high percentage of African ancestry that they have in them. In addition, it's how the word is used. Danny Garcia is straight hood and called himself a ni88a. He didn't use it against someone in a racial slur type of way with the "er" at the end of it.

I realize there might be a generational gap with the use but I just think the word has such negative meanings, there is no need to use it.
I saw a doc with Richard Pryor who was notorious for using the word. He said after his visit to Africa he stopped using the word. The reason he gave was after seeing a country filled with black people where everyone from every class of society was black. He didn't see anyone who fit the meaning of the word.
My point is if you think of the meaning of the word and the reason it was used in the past, it would be hard to imagine how someone can change the meaning to make it more acceptable when they know the reason other people use it is to demean and belittle black people.
The fact is, words and language goes through changes. Slang is created all the time, and that's just one way how words get changed from it's original meaning. And if you don't think so, try comparing the English language of America to the way English is used in England/UK. There are lots of differences even though it's the same English language.
There are many words that have changed completely from it's original meaning. Like the word -- f-u-c-k. That word wasn't originally an explicit word. But today it's used as such. There are way too many words in the English language that have changed from it's original meaning.

So a russian uses a word that is normal for him to use in his language and then it needs to be discussed by HBO if thats acceptable. It then evolves into several discussions about who can use what word with which ending or in what situation...
Is this the middle ages where you could be brought to justice and possibly executed for taking the lords name in vain? If you don't like racist opinions then criticize thoose who are racist for that but act like a grown man and don't start crying about someone using a word in a foreign language.

A) NOBODY CAN TELL ANYONE WHAT WORD HE/SHE CAN/CANNOT USE. Listen to Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryer on this point
B) The "word" maybe cultural but some things work as unstated norms....When I dated where I come from the man pays...I never asked a ***** about it and I never let a ***** pay....We didn't have a discussion about it.
C) Nobody owns the privalege of using this word appropriately.....It is either rascist or it is not....Why? because you are a rascist hypocrite if you tell someone because of his/her color he/she cannot use a word you can use...This is America and when the sheeple are not being brain washed we have this thing called the first *********.
Finally if a Puerto Rican feels comfortable using the word then this is socially normative...yes it has developed back East because of Ricans...Mexicans on the West Coast have other words used....I have lived both places.
When people start telling others that because of their race they can use a word that is considered rascist and use this as a logical argument it is ****** azz ****!!!!!
Damn!!!!
And that brings up another thing. I think censorship of words is ******ed too, in the media, like on TV, music, newspapers, etc. Turning language into a religion of sorts, like there's a 10 goddamn commandments for words. Thou shall not say ****, f*g, etc. Religifying language.
