I don't know how you change the meaning of the word.

I realize there might be a generational gap with the use but I just think the word has such negative meanings, there is no need to use it.

I saw a doc with Richard Pryor who was notorious for using the word. He said after his visit to Africa he stopped using the word. The reason he gave was after seeing a country filled with black people where everyone from every class of society was black. He didn't see anyone who fit the meaning of the word.

My point is if you think of the meaning of the word and the reason it was used in the past, it would be hard to imagine how someone can change the meaning to make it more acceptable when they know the reason other people use it is to demean and belittle black people.

This seems like a decent post to make a point:

People wake the **** up!!! sometimes the ******ity on this board kills me....It takes so many posts before people respond because everone here is so special and then a thread like this makes an appearance.

              A) NOBODY CAN TELL ANYONE WHAT WORD HE/SHE CAN/CANNOT USE. Listen to Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryer on this point

              B) The "word" maybe cultural but some things work as unstated norms....When I dated where I come from the man pays...I never asked a ***** about it and I never let a ***** pay....We didn't have a discussion about it.

              C) Nobody owns the privalege of using this word appropriately.....It is either rascist or it is not....Why? because you are a rascist hypocrite if you tell someone because of his/her color he/she cannot use a word you can use...This is America and when the sheeple are not being brain washed we have this thing called the first *********.

Finally if a Puerto Rican feels comfortable using the word then this is socially normative...yes it has developed back East because of Ricans...Mexicans on the West Coast have other words used....I have lived both places.

When people start telling others that because of their race they can use a word that is considered rascist and use this as a logical argument it is ****** azz ****!!!!!

              Damn!!!!

Its Danny Garcia's word and he doesn't want certain types using it, are you really going to argue with the champ the only man to have a clear win over Mattyice?

Man,such a schit word that should be done away with completely. "I can say it but you can't". WTF is that anyways? If it's racist, then it's racist , that's it, it's over, done with. People wonder why this ****** racism schit continues on when we pick and chose some things to be racist when it benefits one group and then continue to perpetuate racism by pretending the word is different when used by a person of a different color. If something is racist in one sense because of it's origination or historical context, then a word must meet the same criteria. So damn ******.....that's what happens when we try to define stuff to meet agendas. Just come up with a different word to call someone your buddy or friend instead of one of the most "racist" words ever.

People don't change the meaning of words...words develop the capacity to both denote and connote meaning. Words also do not have intentions, people do and use words to express intent.

Richard Pryer was a genius. He learned to carefully consider language and brole down the classism and rascism inherent in how people act towards each other and how this was reflected in language. Lenny Bruce went to jail so he could use and deconstruct the N word. His experience showed how ****** a society looks when it is afraid of words.

I don't care HOW it is pronounced or WHERE it is spoken, only Black people should be allowed to use the word in ANY form! It's simple, if it is used by a non-black and a black person considers it offensive, IT IS OFFENSIVE! And if a black man uses it in a way where another black man is offended, it is OFFENDING.
