He destroyed Duran with the punch because the punch he hit Duran with had more velocity on it than any landed shot in boxing history.

but were you able to see the shot, probably. did you see the phantom punch in regular speed? NO!! that's how fast it was. people today say he didn't hit liston, cause they didn't see the punch cause it was that fast. that has to be the fastest single punch in recorded boxing history!

you see ali throw up his right hand, but you don't actually see him land a punch until you watch the slow-motion video.

I can see him land it clearly. That wasn't even the quickest punch Ali has landed, let alone the quickest punch landed in the history of the sport.

Guys like Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey threw some really hard short shots that knocked people out. No way is a straight right thrown from the shoulder as fast as a 6-inch left hook.
