Why does Martinez have to be less than 100% for Cotto to win?

Angel....where was Cotto's "elite level jab" against a taller Trout?
Cotto does NOT have an "elite level jab" at 154. Cotto is a southpaw fighting out of an orthodox stance. His power shot is the Left Hook since he is heavy handed on his LEFT HAND. This is really simple.
Cotto is giving up 3 inches in height and probably 7 inches in reach to someone who historically can fight very well off his backfoot.
PLEASE check when Cotto throws that vaulted LEFT hook (Please look at youtube vid on previous fight). He is PRIME to be hit with a straight right.
His face is gonna be cut and bleeding against a relatively healthy Martinez.
Take Cotto name off and the nationality, this is a fighter going into terrain incognito with a southpaw that this fighter has trouble against historically.
Again, where is that "elite level jab" at 154? Against Yuri?
Come on now.
He isn't going to come at a 160 Sergio Martinez like he came at 154 Delvin Rodriguez man. He's going to need to use his jab and his timing here more than his aggression.
His nationality has nothing to do with why I think he beats Sergio.Comment

Yes, I honestly think his chin is severely underrated. He's fought many top fighters and only once has he been knocked down by the force of a punch. He went down willingly against Margarito and Torres pulled him down by his head. Only Pacquiao caught him and dropped him hard.
He's been hurt, but he finds a way through it and survives. He can do that against Martinez.Comment

This fight shows you how hard up for cash Martinez is as his career enters its last legs. Either he completely bashes in a severely overmatched Cotto and possibly wins the Mayweather lottery, or we get Cotto-Mayweather II for the lineal strap at 160.Comment

Because Cotto has a punchers chance at best otherwise. Martinez at 100% has superior speed, footwork, and conditioning. I see Cotto doing well in this fight early but Martinez adapts quickly and will eventually start landing those sexy left hand counters. Martinez could very well do as he says and stop Cotto by the 6th round.
As much as I love Cotto, he's not the same beast that steamrolled through 140 and 147.
Anybody remember the beating Cotto took against Pacquiao? Well here's another southpaw that's got faster hands and feet. Oh yea he's bigger, also hit's harder, is himself harder to hit and can counter punch.Comment

Because Cotto is barely a SWW let alone a Middleweight let alone the best middleweight.
Roach is getting paid with Cotto, but even he said that 47 was the direction to go, not 60. Cotto looked tiny and ineffectual against Trout, how is he going to look any different against someone much bigger?Last edited by paulf; 01-01-2014, 12:36 AM.Comment
