Could HBO force Martinez to fight Golovkin?

I mean, Sergio has two fights left in his HBO contract.
One with Cotto (presumably) and then he has to fight Rubio (if he wins) to keep his belt....but HBO refused to air that fight.

Could HBO do what they did with Zbik and refuse to air a fight unless it's with Golovkin? There's a better chance of him doing this if he loses to Cottok, then he doesn't have to fight Rubio anymore.

But Sergio doesn't want to retire until he fights Canelo and Canelo doesn't care if you've lost or not or if you're old, he just needs names to build his resume.

do you guys think HBO will force Martinez to fight Golovkin for his last fight of his HBO contract?

NO. whats the worse they can do-not let him fight on HBO? they can't force anything.

They could offer him way more than he is worth to try and get him to agree to a fight.

It's a big possibility, they invested a lot of money in Golovkin so a passing of the torch type of fight would be an ideal scenario for them.

Actually yes. Martinez's time is running out, he wants a Canelo fight before he retires and he knows that Canelo will fight him once he jumps ship to Showtime.
HBO has blocked one of his fights already, they could do it again.
The longer he waits, the older Martinez gets.

If they try to sue HBO or something, that's even longer

I don't see how a network can pick fighters opponent. All they can do is use their finances to pursuade a fighter to take a fight.

Deny every fight Sergio Martinez asks for that isn't Golovkin and offer a fight with Golovkin more than any other fight he asks for.

Martinez probably thinking he'll get paid 5 million or something to fight Golovkin

Still doesn't force him to fight GGG but I agree they could give him an offer that he can't refuse.

The problem is that Martinez can now make more money from the gate in Argentina than what HBO pays him. He can get along fine without American TV money.

I doubt Golovkin vs Martinez can happen on regular HBO anymore. If Martinez beats Cotto and Golovkin finally gets a marque name, a PPV may be possible in the second half of 2014.

Martinez will still have one fight left on his HBO contract.

Also... doubt he fights Golovkin in 2014, he still has to fight Rubio as his mandatory, should he beat Cotto.
Better chance of fighting Golovkin if he loses
