I think the contract is more along the line of HBO having exclusive American rights to his next 2 fights, not that he has to have 2 fights on HBO. He could probably retire after Cotto.
Could HBO force Martinez to fight Golovkin?

What do you mean? They pretty muched forced Paul Williams vs Sergio Martinez II. Williams really wasnt interested in a rematch but HBO wouldnt approve any other fight and by approve I mean pay him.Comment

No way he brings Canelo to Argentina or anywhere else.
Maybe Mexico... but doubt he goes there as the champion...or even as the former champion.
He's putting up a little resistance against the guy who's gonna get him the most money everComment

Martinez would move down all the way to 147 before having to face Golovkin. He is a scared coward clown. All bravado and demanging with a 154 pounder, yet avoiding the biggest threat in his own division. Coward.Comment

HBO can offer a ton of money to make a fight but I don't see how they can make a fighter fight an opponent. If that was the case I think there is a fight I know that surely woul've happened already-and I'm not talking about Gary Russell vs a live body.Comment

hbo won't literally force anyone to fight somebody but money speaks so if you want their money you do what they want.Comment

I hear everybody saying how bad he wants a canelo fight. The fight he wanted bad is the one he actually is gonna get. U know the one with Miguel cotto. Doesn't get much bigger than msg against cotto. Sergio is a old 40. U gotta be crazy if u think hbo is gonna let Martinez not fight 3G with that last fight. 2 big paydays left for the middleweight king, then retirement.Comment

Absolutely they can, just remember who purchases the rights to a fight telecast. They can reject a fight at a whim since they are essentially the financial backers.
See HBO rejecting Canelo-Lopez. What does GBP do next, instead of having Canelo face a stronger challenger, they walk down the road and still get their wishes fulfilled. HBO said no in this case, they have every right to deny a fight just as much as they would endorse a particular fight if it makes sense (money).Comment
