Hey why not. Vitali only ever held the paper "championship" to begin with, so theres no reason to treat that title with respect, regulations or mandatories now. Come back with a box of cash and be "champ" anytime, "champ."

      Give Haye his shot...then retire.

I've never seen anywhere that Lewis was an Emeritus Champion. Of course, this may have been. When he retired it was decisive and he said he would not be returning. Emeritus is given so that the Champion can be in recess when he is not certain of his future plans re retirement. It was given to Klitschko originally because he had such warm and respectful relationship with Jose Sulaiman and the whole WBC group, and raised the status of the title. As you will have noted, Klitschko is not certain about a permanent retirement.

That was nearly a decade ago with only one astounding defense against the immortal Danny Williams. He's only been a paper champ since. Am I lying?

I think he wants to focus on politics and with it really kicking off in Ukraine atm, you can't really blame him, it's more important.

That said I don't think his best effort will land him an influential enough position in Politics there beyond the election which I think is next year but being called for earlier.

In which case he'll turn his efforts to a come back match. Haye would still be big money but there could be other big fights by that time.

Sorry Battler. I just looked it up and it seems that the WBC can give the Emeritus title to anyone, by a 2/3rds vote and indeed Lewis was, and according to their strange rule, still is, an Emeritus Champion; along with 12 others. But in practice it has been noticed, and written about that it is given when the champion has brought renown and respect to the title and is not certainly retired.

It would be an interesting point if both Klitschko and Lewis claimed thattheir Emeritus standings gave them simultaneous rights to fight the reigning champion..... Would the opportunity fall to Lewis as being the Emeritus before Klitschko, or would it go to Klitschko as being the most recent......And what about Roy Jones?? He also holds an Emeritus status..... These kokamamie rules can potentially cause all sorts of mess-ups.

By the way- I forgot....Happy Holidays and enjoy your Festive Seasons to ALL of you, including those I have excoriated on this site for the whole year. And not forgetting Jan 6th for those who keep that day instead of Dec.25th

It's a good thing Vitali's B-side, joke reign has finally come to an end. We're talking about a 3 time paper champion, multiple title defenses.... yet, his best 2 wins are Sanders and Adamek (!), having lost to the best he's ever fought.

Vitali never cared about his legacy, and he has none as a result. I hope he will have a bigger impact on politics than he has had on the heavyweight championship history, but I very much doubt that.

Be careful. As truthful as they are its dangerous to speak the truth sometimes. People get very offended by this.
