Thurman's probably too big (Provodnikov weighed 150lb in the ring when he 'moved up' to welterweight - same as he weighed when he moved back down to JW) & too quick on his feet for Provodnikov, but still a very risky fight.
Thurman has never faced that kind of relentless pressure before by such a strong guy, but I would still would favour Thurman, who has too many advantages in speed & size.
Personally would rather see both stick to their own divisions than have them go against each other, & I suspect Thurman will be moving up to JM within a couple of years anyway.
thurman would box his doors off and probably stop him. he moves very well, has a good chin by the look of things, and has power. provodnikov has power, but he's crude and fights in spots.
I'll take Ruslan by UD. The pressure RP will put on Thurman will be intense, but not enough to knock him out (I am making a big assumption that Thurman's chin is as good as I think it is. There's been no evidence to show me otherwise yet). Sure, Thurman can hit, but Ruslan's unrelenting pressure will back Thurman up, mitigating some of his power. I predict a ton of power shots, with Ruslan coming out on top on the scorecards. The big unknown is how Thurman will react to really, really getting tagged consistently. In the absence of that knowledge, I'm going with Ruslan.
