Hummm, great match up. Not sure how Thurman may take the restless pressure from Provo.

To be honest I'm not sure anybody will stop Ruslan at 140 or 147 in the foreseeable future. Roach is turning this kid into a beast. After watching Soto Karass in slow motion catching and hurting Thurman, can you imagine Provodnikov on Thurman's chest, throwing those short devastating punches?

I believe he stops Thurman inside 4. After 4(Ruslan loses some steam on his punches) Thurman's speed would probably get to Ruslan's face(it would break down on him) and end the fight with cuts.

I'd take Thurman at 147. Thurman is a huge Welterweight, and he hits harder than Alvarado and Rios.

I would pick Thurman over most 140 to 147 pound fighters but not this guy. Provodnikov has as much or more power than Thurman combined with a better chin and a higher workrate in my opinion. I think he knocks Thurman out.

This. I'm not believing the things I'm seeing posted in this tread.

I see Thurman having to climb off the canvas to stop Provodnikov.
I think the timeline for this fight could be the end of next year or early 2015, if Provodnikov v Rios gets the go ahead. Sooner if that bout doesn't materialise.
A more likely opponent is Bradley. I don't see Bradley rematching with Provodnikov, Pacquiao or Marquez anytime soon. Which leaves Rios (who might already be in talks with Provodnikov), a mandatory defence or an attempt at another strap within the division.
Another opponent is Maidana, who despite the talk, won't be getting a date with Mayweather. Too much risk at this stage of Floyd's career.
Maidana's star burns bright and he'll be looking to capitalise on this with a mega payday. Which means Pac and Floyd will be hearing from Maidana's camp. Thurman needs a Provodnikov or Maidana to underline his talent and set up the mega fights\paydays of his future.

I'm taking Thurman by UD. I think he'd be able to at least drop Ruslan. I cant see him walking though Thurmans big shots. Ruslan to my knowledge hasn't shown home run hitting power, but he can wear you down if you buckle under his pressure. Thurman knows when to box and when to mix it up, I don't think he'd abandon that gameplan like Alvarado did.
