The regular title was supposed to be a very infrequent and short lived thing, it was claimed to be suggested by the great Lennox Lewis to help with mandatories for unified champions....as the use of unified mandatories fell out of favour as relations between WBA/WBC/IBF deteriorated over time.

But its more than clear that they have abused it for the sake of money (sanction fees). After all, if WBA make it easier for promoters to get fighters a 'world title'...they will always prefer to take the WBA route for their fighters.

It's sickening, and like I say before..expect interim Super titles.
WBA will have 7 champions... world title for everyone

if golovkin beat sturm or peter quillan, would that make him the undisbuted champ at 160 and martinez would lose his top spot? And would if cotto beats martinez? Is golovin or cotto on top?

Im just so confused on how these titles work sometimes

If Cotto beats Martinez at 160, and not some catchweight or 154, then Golovkin would move to #1, Cotto would move to either #2 or #3 (ahead or behind Quillin), and Martinez would drop to #4

Nope, Cotto would be lineal if he beat Martinez, even at a CW. You have no way of getting to #1 unless you beat the champ or it's vacated. Not sure what the policy on avoiding the #1 contender is though

            WTF you mean?
If Cotto wins, he'll be recognized as the top guy because he beat the guy

so if cotto wins, he is the champ at 160? Thats bullcrap, i could see his reign just fighting blown up 154 fighters and saying its 160, They should make a rule where one in every two fights the champion has, he must face a top 5 or top 10 opponent of the weight class he is champion in. Otherwise he could milk the crap out of the belt for years.

honestly though, cotto would be the only one with guts enough to fight golovkin, i mean he fought trout, floyd, margarito(in his prime, with loaded gloves), mosley, manny, hell even clottey who was avoided for a long long time.

That's how it's always worked.... beat the guy with the belt and it's yours.
Hell, Sunny Boy Jaro was the lineal champ for a while

                      This matters because???

GGG is not really the champ, Sergio is and though GGG is the highest rated contender he is still just a contender with a meaningless belt.
