  • Comments Thread For: Abner Mares: Everyone Fears Rigondeaux, But I'd Fight Him

Former three division world champion Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) has no fear of challenging WBA/WBO super bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8KOs).

In August, Mares suffered his first career defeat to Jhonny Gonzalez. The fight was over quickly, with Gonzalez catching Mares and stopping him in the very first round to capture the WBC featherweight crown.

Always felt Mares gets beat by TR's top guys from 122-130, still sticking by that.

At least he's saying it. It seems nobody wants to even mention Rigo.

It's not actual fear. It's fear of losing and looking bad in the process. The best fighter at 122 (next to Rigo, of course), a P4P fighter and 2012 FOTY, was made to look like ordinary by "El Chacal." That might be lost on some fans, but not by professionals actually stepping into the ring.
