Didn't Arum promise Rigondeaux a set purse of $500K if he won his fight with Donaire? Why did Bob Arum even go through the trouble of RE-SIGNING Rigo to another contract with his company if he's so boring? If so, then that was Arum's own fault for making promises he can't keep towards his fighters. We ALL knew how Rigondeaux fought before he fought Donaire, so why are people NOW in an uproar about the way he fights!? Dude is just TOO GOOD FOR HIS OWN GOOD.

HBO and Top Rank were all under the impression that Rigondeaux had a "glass chin", and against an opponent like Nonito Donaire, he was supposedly destined to get KNOCKED OUT. Rigondeuax would've been the PERFECT catapult for Donaire's superstardom into not only the pound for pound rankings, but the regular mainstream audience as well. There would not have been a fighter in the lb for lb rankings that could say that they've knocked out a 2x Olympic gold medalist. Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez, Martinez, couldn't say something like that; but Donaire could say something along those lines if he defeated Rigondeaux.

I've NEVER seen a network and a promotional company that's trying to strong arm a fighter into doing what THEY want him to do. F**K that. Rigo is a grown a$$ man. Now they want the man to move up in weight to make it easier for his opposition, KNOWING that Rigo is a small bantamweight. People talk about Lomachanko and Rigondeaux... Let me guess, if Rigo can move up in weight for Loma, then he can do it for for Donaire too now right? Why isn't nobody saying s**t about Rigondeaux and Shiming tho? Why not? Zou Shiming is a 2x Olympic gold medalist right? What about Lomachenko and Yuriorkis Gamboa? We're STILL owed from Gamboa and Juanma Lopez falling through! Yuri had to make himself look bad by going up in weight and looking like a$$ for people to FINALLY call him out in the lower weight divisions.

And anybody here supporting this BULLSHIT are some damn hypocrites! When Floyd Mayweather Jr. CONSTANTLY tells ya'll that this is all about business, then ya'll accuse the man of ducking and cherrypicking. But WHEN Rigondeaux CALLS OUT the best fighters in BOTH the TR and GB stables, then ya'll call him a "boring" fighter that needs to market himself better. SMH!!

Sweat Pea Whitaker was a little before my time.

How did fans see him as far as entertainment value. He certainly got the job done but maybe he expended a little more energy standing in front of a guy and ducking all those shots, which made for entertainment. I don't know.

I see Rigo in the same light. All he can do is just keep winning, and winning and winning. Get on a faster schedule. You only have what 12 fights and you're like 31 years old.

Do what GGG does and fight non-televised fights. They can't ignore a winner forever. Forget about the traditional reliance on HBO/Sho and go over their head with quantity over quality, with lots of fights lined up against anybody and everybody.

I've always wondered why Arum wanted to re-sign Rigo. The best I can come up with is that he wanted to keep him from signing with his arch-rival, Golden Boy.

Arum always knew Guillermo was a threat to Donaire. He said so himself. I posted a Youtube interview about it earlier in the thread.

It's not too often that you get a tiny fighter with amazing talent who just happens to be considered boring. They're at a loss as to what to do to make Rigo more marketable.

Shiming is an even smaller fighter who would, quite frankly, be obliterated by "El Chacal." Even if they fought in the same division, Top Rank would never allow their new Chinese cash cow to be canceled out by their current promotional headache.

You can't make 500k in an untelevised fight. Rigo scoffed at 350k

He's 33, with 13 fights. Rigo is a proud man. I don't think it's just about money with him. I think he gets offended with some of this stuff he regards as bullshit. I don't think he ever saw any of this coming when he defected and turned pro. Frankly, neither did I.

                Well then he is fucked.

He is what I would call in the Winky-territory. Winky Wright thought that he was bigger than he really is, feeling a sense of entitlement. He kept waiting for the big fights and was on the shelf for a great period of time after the Jermain Taylor and Hopkins fights.

I read his stuff fairly regularly. Rafael has become increasingly hostile towards Rigo, as if the fat fuck has any right to criticize an athlete of Guillermo's stature the way he does. I mean, you're supposed to be a "journalist," for fuck's sake. Be a little more professional. He's a fanboy with a pen.

Sweet Pea fought a lot in Norfolk, his hometown and sold well. Plus he was in a division that gets a lot of coverage. And he stood in the pocket and was much more active offensively than Rigo.
