  • Comments Thread For: Frank Gavin Would Like Marcos Maidana Title Shot

Having emphatically seen off all domestic competition this year – nailing a Lonsdale Belt outright in the process – British and Commonwealth welterweight boss Frankie Gavin can now set his antennae on scaling further up the world ratings.

The 147lb division might have the deepest talent pool in world boxing but the 28 year old Brummie southpaw patently has the tools and talent to flourish within it.

This Saturday evening, England’s sole world amateur champion breaks fresh ground as a pro by squaring up to African competition, accommodating Ghana’s useful Joseph Lamptey in a second defence of his Commonwealth crown at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. [Click Here To Read More]

Frankie needs to get to the States and fight some well known names as nobody other than the Uk know who is - if he gets a couple of wins on some well known names he can then think about challenging for the World Title. Perhaps get him in with Kendal Holt and then either Maligianni or Judah that will raise his profile provided he wins these fights and if his really ambitious try Devon Alexander.

Well true - but if you are a true boxing fan you would know who is - that been said his marketing team have not done a good job at this stage of his career he should of gone up a level and this will be downfall in the long run - he should be fighting decent American opponents because that is where the money is and the experience would of been invaluable.

Gavin is very defensively gifted, different to Broner. Might need to gradually step up competition rather than run at Maidana

Frankie needs to fight Bundu in the new year & then concentrate on the USA. As British, EBU & Commonwealth champion he could get some serious action over there.

Gots to earn that Frankie. Beating Lamptey isnt going to do it either.

He needs to step up in 2014... well Frank Warren needs to step up and get him some bigger fights. Vassell was a good start

Monster step up, but he has a chance if he can take Maidana's power well. He should fight some good second raters first though. Those British level guys won't prepare him for Maidana.

I like Gavin, but he's not ready to fight guys like Maidana. Beside the point Maidana will be chasing big fights now.

Gavin needs to maybe start travelling and adding recognizable names to his CV. He's at the point where he needs to be stepping up in level..not the Maidana's and Khan's though as he's been talking of, as of late.
