No surprise that an up-and-comer wants to put himself on the radar and garner a bit of publicity; building a profile is such a key part of the business.
Frankie knows he's way off a Maidana fight at the moment (he'd get the bloody shock of his life if Marcos actually dialled his mobile!) but if you start mentioning yourself early enough then you might get what you want later down the line. Fair enough and a sound policy.
Gavin is a credible fighter with decent movement, quick hands and he's got the happy knack of fighting at the pace he wants and also at the range of his choice. He's economical as well; rarely wastes a punch and makes the other guy work hard to hit him.
Physiically he does not look much but FG is a skilled ring general and now that he's got his head straight and fighting regularly (a problem in the past) he's beginning to **** on the door of being a world-class operator.
He handled a very strong, hard-case called Vassell pretty easily this year and showed a lot of ability; but he must step-on next year and fight someone outside the British/Commonwealth comfort zone. Preferably a slick American or a proper, rugged South American slugger who ain't shopworn.
2014 will be make or break for FG.

Hasn't earned it yet, besides, Maidana is going to fight Floyd.

Haven't seen his last couple of fights but from what I have seen of him before he seemed featherfisted to me. Not a good thing against Maidana.

NOBODY Heard Of This Stiff Until This Article Was Written
This guy needs to get to the states and fight top level competition, if he's going to be ready for Maidana or anyone else. Selling himself short saying "once Floyd retires", is such a bonehead statement if you're seeking to be confident and be the best. Why would you lay down to anyone, regardless if the reality is you have no chance? This guy needs to beat some b/c level fighters in the US first.... fight Rios, Alvarado, Khan, Judah, Berto, Soto-Karas, Lamont Peterson first, then you can name drop Maidana and the rest. Until then, you're just one item in a sack of groceries.

I like Gavin, but he's not ready to fight guys like Maidana. Beside the point Maidana will be chasing big fights now.
Gavin needs to maybe start travelling and adding recognizable names to his CV. He's at the point where he needs to be stepping up in level..not the Maidana's and Khan's though as he's been talking of, as of late.

Monster step up, but he has a chance if he can take Maidana's power well. He should fight some good second raters first though. Those British level guys won't prepare him for Maidana.

Gots to earn that Frankie. Beating Lamptey isnt going to do it either.
He needs to step up in 2014... well Frank Warren needs to step up and get him some bigger fights. Vassell was a good start
