I can't imagine why Alexander would quit, but I'm wondering now. I don't remember this happening at all, or anyone mentioning it.

Nah, they weren't talking about Purdy's corner, this was before they even knew it. That's why they said "wait, wait" Plus if you watch it again, Cunningham's back is facing Purdy's corner, how could he have known?
