As the end of round 11 neared, seconds to go, Alex Ariza, the Strength and conditioning coach of Marcos Maidana used a Pen to write something he felt incredibly inspirational on the napkin that was in his hands. Ding Ding! El Chino went to the doctor, hurt from an illegal shot, then he sat down to his trusted corner. Robert shouted "Are you OK Chino? Use the ****ing jab and punch him, use your face to take his shots because this is the Garcia way. Go for the KO, we won every round but go for the KO even though you are hurt badly Chino, do this for you family, this will change your ****ing life. Look at me Chino, look at me". Still in a daze, Maidana's concentration faded, not understanding a word.
Then Alex Ariza showed him a napkin, not just an ordinary napkin, but a special one, a napkin beyond any in existence. The words were poetry in motion.
As soon as Maidana saw it, he jumped back and took deep breaths. He was awake, alive for the first time it felt.
His mind was upside down, the words so real that he was caught off guard. The ref calls him to the centre of the squared circle, 3 minutes to go for a life changing end. Will he conquer AB Ya know, I got humped? As he walked to face his foe for one last round, still hurt from the shot thrown after the bell in the last round, he reminded himself the words written on the napkin that made his hairs stand up.
He knew he would win.Comment
