I honestly don't see how Golovkin isn't winning this poll.

Fighting only twice with only one good opponent shouldn't warrant FOTY candidacy.

Floyd fought a high profile fight against Canelo and a solid win over Guerrero. But Canelo looked like absolute trash against Trout, only one fight before. And Guerrero's win over Berto doesn't exactly classify him as some world beater.

Rigo fought twice against a fighter who was highly ridiculed by boxing fans, and a fighter who has been very inactive in the past couple years.

Danny Garcia went life and death with both Judah and Matthysse. These were not dominating performances by any means. Matthysse having been up on the scorecards, rallying hard in the 11th.. Then Garcia scores a KD and still wins the fight close on scorecards.

Golovkin fought 4 times this year. Granted his opponents weren't the best, but they are what I call Showcase fighters. They aren't there expected to win, but they are there to answer questions about their opponent. Showcase fighters generally will have many big names on their resume for the sole purpose of comparing their fights with other fighters they have been pitted against. For example, Juanma Lopez having fought Salido in the build up to a Gamboa fight, because Gamboa had already beaten Salido.

    Analyzing them:

Rosado - Having fought middleweight standouts in Love and Quillin later in the year, arguably robbed in both fights, was completely dominated, cut, and brutalized by Golovkin for all rounds lasted.

Ishida - Not the greatest in the world, but he was there for mutual comparisons of other fighters fought. Tends to be resilient with a very good chin. Able to withstand Pirog and Williams without being hurt, or knocked down. Gets ran over by Golovkin in 3.

Macklin - Coming off a clear robbery in Sturm, very competitive fight with Martinez, and a 1st round blasting of of Alcine. Macklin also gets steamrolled in 3.

Stevens - Good fighter with big power, on a hot-streak with a few 1st rounders. Dropped hard and brutalized for 8 rounds.

I am merely using this post as means to put things into perspective. I mean, if Donaire won last year based off activity, I feel Golovkin did just that, and in much better fashion.

Golovkin has had an excellent year. However, I don't think he deserves fighter of the year. Imo, he is out of the running for the award because both Stevenson and Kovalev had better years than him. All three fighters fought similar schedules (four times this year) and they won all four fights by (T)KO. But Stevenson and Kovalev had a higher quality of opposition than Golovkin.

The guy winning this poll is the most logical answer in terms of wins quality breakout year but the guys right behind Rigondeaux are not the ones i expected. Most deff not Danny Garcia.

Yeah, Judah and Matthysse, as big an upset as the Matthysse win was, can't compare to most that list.

Cong**** to Rigo, I'm sure it's made his year

No offence to Garcia fans but glad he didn't get it. He belonged in the discussion but old Judah gave him all he could handle and Matthysse was well up until the unfortuitous eye swelling (4-2 or 5-1).

When this thing was first posted, I thought the poll was closed on 12/30/13. Turns out it's 2014! lol Must be a mistake. It doesn't make sense to keep a poll for 2013 FOTY open that long.
