He and his handlers wanted to shoot him right up the weight classes when they should've just built him up gradually. He should've stayed at 135, cleaned that up and then moved to 140. He bit off more than he could chew stepping to 147. Now that he's gotten his reality check, hopefully he decides to move down because his skill-set nor his body are fully developed yet for WW. Although he was 156, Chino clearly looked bigger.

Should Broner go back down in weight?

Broner is very similar to Donaire in that his success had a lot to do with his size. Once Donaire started moving up in weight we saw him struggle badly against Vasquez Jr and Mathebula, and then of course getting battered by Rigo.
Broner is the same. It's easy to look good beating up guys like Gavin Rees and Escobedo, and DeMarco who are not only inferior boxers but way smaller as well. But once he moved up to 147 the results haven't been the same. He looked terrible against Paulie and Maidana, both fighters that are his size or a bit bigger.
For Broner to be successful he needs to go back down to 135 where he has a huge size advantage over all those fighters and bully them cause he's not going to survive at 147.Last edited by Cuban Linx; 12-15-2013, 03:16 AM.

Hes a pretty solid welter IMO but he could probably make 140, its pretty obvious he can no longer stew down further.
If I was him I'd probably target a fight with Peterson @ 140.
IDK I can see a lot of guys at both weights licking their lips to fight him. Garcia, Lucas, Brook, Thurman etc etc all destroy him, **** would he even beat Bundu?
I don't want to take shine off Maidana's win but I am struggling to see Broner beat any top fighter at 140, 147 really.

I feel it's a bit different with Donaire. Guys knew what they were getting into when they fought Donaire so they would fight very, very, defensive and it would make it difficult for Donaire to look spectacular. Especially after the Montiel fight.
The same thing happened to Sergio Martinez after he KO'd P. Williams. After that all the guys he fought would fight him very cautious and defensively.
I feel like with Broner he just got ahead of himself. He moves up to WW fights Paulie and had himself one of his worst performances, so then what does he do? Fights Marcos Maidana. I feel like after seeing Robert Guerrero shoot up a few weight divisions and have some success Broner thought he could do the same, but Robert's older and his body is more developed than Broner's which I think helped in Guerroro's success with his WW run.
Honesty, if anything Broner was a victim of giving the fans exactly what they want. Fans wanted to see him in there with a big strong puncher and he gave them exactly that, good for him the kid's got balls and heart.
Is Broner the new Fernando Vargas?
