Why Sugar Shane Should Flatten Fernando

WHY SUGAR SHANE SHOULD FLATTEN FERNANDO

I'll be very honest with you. When this fight that will take place
February 25th was made , I was pretty excited about it. Yes I know it is a
fight that should have been made years ago but it wasn't so I'll take it
    now.

With that said I hope these two ancient warriors don't go into slow
motion mode and bore the hell out of the paying viewers. For some reason I
don't think that is going to happen. Call it pride. I believe both boxers
feel a part of their legacy is on line. I'm hoping that pride will kick in
and the boxers will give all they have left. If that is the case then it
should be a very exciting affair. This is a real good style match up here.

There is also another motivating factor for Mosley and Vargas. The
winner may get to meet Oscar De La Hoya later this year. That is provided
that the " Big O " wins the title in May against Ricardo Mayorga. Even if
Mayorga upsets Oscar, the winner of Mosley-Vargas could get a piece of
Mayorga. That's a nice chunk of change for Shane or Fernando.

The fight itself ? Well in my my mind I can only see one ending. The
referee holding Shane's hand aloft as the winner. Why ? To me to beat Shane
Mosley you have to keep him at the end of a long jab. It takes him out of
his rhythm. Shane does something, resets and does something else. The more
he is jabbed out of position , the more he is forced to reset. It takes him
completely out of his game plan. You could actually see the frustration on
his face. That is what Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright did to Shane. Oscar
has a good jab but not a jab that Shane could not deal with. Shane could
match jabs with Oscar and then go about his business. That is why he was
successful against Oscar and why he will be victorious over Vargas.

Fernando Vargas is a good, tough and talented boxer who has his best
days behind him. This is not a good tactical match up for him. Everything he
can do, Shane can do a little better. Mosley is stronger. He has the faster
hands. He is a better boxer. They both have decent power and solid chins. I
just see an uphill battle from the opening bell for Fernando.

The only way I see for Fernando to win this fight is to just out will
Mosley. He has to want that second shot at De La Hoya so bad that he will
endure and overcome and defeat the more talented Mosley. This is truly a "
crossroads " fight for both of these champions. I'm going to have to go with
Mosley by a late round stoppage. I just hope the fans get their money's
    worth.

i figure mosleys is going to have the incentive to let his hands go in this one.vargas has looked piss to poor last few times out. and could be fighting hurt.mentaly or physically.
everythings riding on this one for mosley.hope to see a more confident mosley throwing combos and showing devistating bodywork on vargas.

I think that Mosely will and should just headhunt. Since Trinidad, Vargas has been wobbled in nearly every fight he's had even by guys who had single digit knockout %s. Vargas' brain can't take it no more. Mosely by KO whenever he is able to press Fernando's button, which will be often because Vargas is a brave man, maybe to the point of foolishness.

I think that Vargas' new style has turned him into a shadow of his former self. The new approach does not suit him, plus he has looked very slow. I say that Mosley will win by convincing UD.

it is just obvious that mosley is was and always will be a lot more skilled than vargas and it is hard to see vargas winning this. mosley definitely has the better chin, the forest 1 match proved this. hes way faster. vargas has more power but not power thats going to knock mosley out. this is still a mismatch.

This is a smart post. Listen, i agree with Mosley being installed as favourite to win. i personally think he'll win on points, probably the concenous on this site feel likewise.
However, i think people are writing off Vargas so absolutely they elavate Mosley to the standard of fighter he used to be. But Mosley hasn't looked that good for years. I consider De La Hoya a bigger puncher than Mosley, only slighty though. If Vargas can fight on almost equal tems with Oscar then Mosley is not going to walk through Vargas. This has the potenial to be fight of the year if only because i think both fighters realize that a loss here could end their career at world level.
I pick Mosley but i wll not write off Vargas. In his prime he was a very good fighter who could box and punch. I would be shocked if Vargas won the fight but it wouldn't be a Douglas Vs Tyson shock. The poster Lostguy reffered to this match being a mismatch! Sorry my friend, that is bull****. Vargas has heart and will fight till the end. Although i pick Mosley, Vargas knows this is the make or break fight and i just hope the bookie odds for this fight reflect the general oinion on this site. If Vargas was like a 5 to 1 underdog i would risk ten bucks just in case.
