i don't understand, Ward was the one who extended and signed these contracts... he screwed himself over here.

Ward needs to take the next step up visibility wise. To the avid boxing fan he is a fixture but to the novice he is basically an unknown. He has tremendous talent so why not Top Rank? China, the World? - not a bad move. Don't know about GB and as for Gossen, good guys but maybe something between both parties fell short in expectation.Comment

I'm sure Ward must have read the agreement, or had someone equally-intelligent read it, paying close attention to any dates and financial figures because that sort of info is some of the most crucial data on a contract.
Ward is an intelligent guy there's no question about that, he would have been aware of the contract expiry date from the start, no doubt. So I'm guessing he received a few better offers from other promoters which is why he wants out of Goosen. You'll see him get signed to Top Rank or Golden Boy pretty soon after he leaves Goosen. Either that or he's going to try to follow the Floyd blueprint of self-promotion /collaborative promotion.Comment

If a contract violates a law than a contract is void. Part of the game. In 2004 it was the promoter who held the cards, not Ward. So it was on the promoter to offer a fair contract that didn't contradict the law - or the contract ended up contradicting the law as they extended it for too long. If Ward can get out of his contract because the contract is illegal, more power to him.
Having said that, no way Ward becomes a crossover star. The guy is boring as hell, and far too clever for your average Joe. He can't pull off a bad boy either, too late for that. Ward manages to irritate me pretty much every time I hear him speak.Comment

I think Andre Ward should look at Kathy Duva's Main Events Promotions or Lou DiBella's DiBella Entertainment. I like the Floyd-style, Miguel Cotto took Floyd's way in promoting, Felix Strum does it as well and now it seems GGG & Canelo are in the same boat.Comment

Only on NSB can Andre Ward be called a boring fighter and not capable of becoming a crossover star. If you don't like the art of boxing why watch? There's a huge difference between 2004 Ward and 2013 Ward. He needs a new contract now that he's at the top of his division and atop the the p4p lists. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with GBP, but that's because I tend to choose the lesser of two evils.Comment
