I have a lot more respect for what Brandon Rios did than what Margarito did.

People cling on too much to "Oh the 6th round!" where Margarito seemingly hurt Pacquiao to the body, other than that he got his ass beat to a pulp and career ended.

Rios will live to fight another day because no matter how many people want to call him a punching bag, he actually blocked about 500 punches with his gloves out of the 700 something Pacquiao threw. Rios used about as tight a defense as a brawler was capable of using and I actually give him props for his performance because 1. He sucks at the top level, 2. Every one and their mother's predicted a TKO for Pacquiao, and 3. He's going to continue his career because he didn't get physically ruined like Margarito who for his brave effort is now done.

Margarito got ridiculed for looking Chinese after the fight, so imagine if he would've gotten KOd, on top of being absolutely abused in that fight.
Better to save face than save brain damage? Craziness if you ask me.

Read the context of OPs post.

He specifically uses the word, "punked".

Meaning, if you're getting beat up all night, you're getting "punked".

Wrong, you can get beat up all night, and come out looking like a warrior to the fans. You get KOd. You're the butt of all jokes, and people feel sorry for you, like how a school teacher feels sorry for a kid getting bullied.

Yes, if you're getting your ass beat for 12 rounds, of course, people are gonna feel sorry for you, but within the context of TS' post, I think a KO is way more damaging on the punked scale.

How come there were threads saying, "I thought Manny was supposed to KO this bum? He lasted all 12, I guess his power ain't all that."

Meaning, getting KOd is the ultimate, "getting punked" move.

The notion of 'punked' is childish. What the fans think is of little concern when you are getting the hell beaten out of you. Margarito went for it in a way Rios didn't, in that respect he deserves more praise but he may have, or could have, paid a big price for it because his corner and the referee failed to do their duty. Hearing the final bell showed bravery but it was totally unnecessary. Indeed doesn't the fact that Pacquiao went easy on him towards the end not count as being 'punked'? It must certainly have been humiliating for such a proud warrior like Margarito, worse perhaps than getting knocked out.

Talk to OP about the word, "punked". I didn't use it. You obviously understand the logic in it, since you just said, "Margarito went for it in a way Rios didn't, in that respect he deserves more praise".

That's just a politically correct way in saying, "Margarito was being more of a man."

Yes, going for it, is the "manlier" thing to do, but it also depends on the outcome.

Getting beat on like a punching bag, and surviving all 12 rounds, not only saves face, but also less severe on the punked scale.

For the fighter it is better to be KO'd. Sustained brain damage can lead to a plethora of traumatic brain issues. Now getting KO'd repeatedly can do the same but to a lesser extent.

It means Margarito tried harder to win the fight than Rios did, it need not imply it means he is 'manlier', or any such nonsense.

"In that respect he deserves praise."

You obviously know the context in which the OP wants the discussion to be about.

Praise from who? The fans, peers, promoters, etc. People.

Why are you trying so hard to sound like Dudley Do right? It's okay, we can talk about these things without being degrading towards fighters.

Getting KTFO is worse on the punked scale, then getting beat on and surviving all 12 rounds.

At least you can say, "I took your best, and you still couldn't take me out!" Unless of course, you were blatantly running like Sugar Shane against Pacquiao.

That makes no sense. There has to be a level of defensive to your game in order to get that KO/TKO, or to hurt your man.

You want to watch 2 rock em sockem robots with no guard up, and just whack each other in the face?

I can watch that on WSHH.
