Polarising in that most Americans didn't have a clue who he was until he fought Hopkins in 2008 at 36 years old. They usually choose to form their opinion on a past-prime Joe collecting his payday against his 90's peers in what were almost exhibition matches for Joe. With one eye on retirement, and another on Ricky Hatton breaking America, I guess Joe figured it was time to cash in on his fantastic career, by fighting the big guys from his own era. Truth be told there was a lot more to Joe than those two fights, and it's a shame most aren't bothered enough to educate themselves and would rather come on here and talk ****.
IMHO Calzaghe would have had the beating of Hopkins at any time. Just all wrong for Hopkins style.
