So Im having a debate with a poster here and he says as fighters have a high workrate they don't need to work the body to be exciting. Imagine the Gatti-Ward fights with no body punching. Holyfield-Bowe, Frazier against Ali, Hearns-Barkley or any JCC fight with no body punching. Would they have been nearly as exciting? Working the body not only slows the other fighter down its an integral part of opening up head shots. Vote and discuss please.
Better make it: "Does punching make boxing more exciting?"

Body punching definitely plays a part in making the sport more exciting. Yes a lot of the time it is neglected, for example Ali barely threw to the body and he was one of the best ever. But me personally I love to see a good well placed body shot. Also a big part of the sport is to break a man down to the body, beat him slow and wear him down over the course of the fight....It's too big of a dimension of the game to overlook.
There are some great body shots in the history of the sport too that are just as entertaining, if not more, than some headshot knockouts;
Hopkins vs De La Hoya, Roy Jones Jr. vs Hill, Cotto vs Foreman, Hatton vs Castillo, for a few modern examples.
Shots to the body where also a big part of what made Gatti - Ward a great fight too...Comment

gotta be some sort of anti wladimir thread
it's pretty obvious that taking body punches out of boxing is limiting.Comment

It drove me nuts a couple of years ago how so many world class fighters didn't punch to the body. Things have changed lately, thankfully.Comment
