                    Very briefly, there's some division in the country over which direction to take, whether to ally more closely with Western Europe (Vitalis people) or the government line which is to stay outta Europe and ally more closely (as I understand it) with Russia. There's also dissatisfaction with govt. corruption, and amongst some segments that the achievements of the 'orange revolution' are being betrayed by Russian influences.

                    Just recently - yesterday or so, the PM turned down a major trade partnership with the EU that would have considerably strengthened ties.

                    Those who support Vitali will say that Russia is interfering too much in the affairs of Ukraine, pro-govt supporters say that Vitali and his party are being bankrolled and are a front for major the political and business interests of the EU - notably Germany.
