I never said that Adonis is just going to lay down. In fact, I believe he's going to be very dangerous since he'll be on the back foot countering where he is the most effective IMO. He's a huge puncher in his own right, that's nothing to be disputed. He also has terrific explosiveness and accuracy which, combined with his power, make him a serious threat to any 175lb fighters.
That being said, Kovalev is just a bad matchup for Stevenson because of his ring IQ, power, punch output, stalker mentality, and probably since he is starting to hate Adonis like he hated Sillakh. It wouldn't be a cakewalk, but Sergey would overpower the more fragile Stevenson and stop him brutally.
Sidenote, they probably won't fight until late 2014/they won't ever fight.
I've noticed that the HBO commentators said that Kovalev was speaking (in Russian) to Sillakh, during the fight... I just wonder what he was saying...
I'm not sure if Kovalev can handle it physically. But if he can, a move to cruiserweight may be in his best interest. Names aren't as big at cruiser. But Kovalev offers an HBO date and a bigger payday than most of those guys will see without him. Because as I see it now, he's gonna be frozen outta big fights at light heavy.
I don't know, he has a nice size advantage over GGG to me. It's funny, when I was watching the fight, I couldn't remember the guy, although I know I've have to had seen him fight before. I immediately thought about GGG when he won the fight.
Does anyone want to see either of them fight Andre Ward?
