Comments Thread For: Jeff Lacy Returns With First Win in Over Four Years

Former world champion Jeff Lacy (26-4, 18KOs) returned for the first time since an upset decision loss to Dhafir Smith in December 2010, and scored a third round technical knockout over Martin Verdin (2017-2, 11KOs) at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

At one time Lacy was one of the most feared fighters in boxing, but he was never the same after his decision loss to Joe Calzaghe in 2006, and the left shoulder surgery that followed his win over Vitaliy Tsypko. Some say the shoulder surgery took away Lacy's main weapon - the left hook - which may be true since the win over Verdin was his first victory by knockout since November 2005. That's a pretty impressive record... shame the spotlight he clearly deserves has avoided him all his career

Subconsciously you must have ill feeling towards Lacy if you want him to get that Kovalev treatment.

lol.. you may be right,, but what is the point of his comeback,, he will beat a few journeymen and then be in position because of his name to land a big fight and stevenson, kovolev, hopkins, froch, ward, pascal would all beat him down

lacy-bute may be a good fight if lacy is fully healthy with his shoulder

Hah there is not point to his comeback. Like so many other boxers he is lost without the sport so he fights on and on and on..

A young Lacy vs Bute would have been a really good fight. Seeing as Lacy lost to a shot RJJ he really has no hope of getting any wins against legitimate fighters. This comeback, like 99% of others is doomed.

Good to see Lacy back... always liked watching him fight. The battles with Vanderpool and Reid were classics IMO. Yeah, he's limited, but still fun to watch in the ring. Even if he doesn't come all the way back, it's his choice what he does with his life. He!!, Buster Douglas' comeback was great.... he won almost all of the fights, plus got in shape after nearly dying from a diabetic coma. So, very often some good can come from a return to the ring.

Godamn his opponent has a 0.01% KO ratio. Talk about taking a light touch for your comeback fight
