Setting the record straight on Chris Eubank

Eubank was a flashy, brash boxer. He was a showboat. His skills were by far the best of the three (Eubank, Benn, Watson), especially his footwork. Eubank boxed circles around Benn in their first fight.

Despite having the best skills (and biggest mouth), Eubank was a chicken**** as a matchmaker. He didn't fight any top American fighters. He played it safe. Maybe he knew his ego couldn't handle a loss.

One particular episode sticks in my mind. Before the Julian Jackson - Herol Graham fight for the vacant WBC middleweight title, Eubank talked about fighting Graham to unify the WBC and WBO belts. However, when Jackson iced Graham, Eubank walked out of the arena in disgust. It was clear he didn't want to fight Jackson.

It's difficult to say who had the best skills..

Benn was very, very naturally talented but didn't really improve, until Tibbs taught him better tactics/technique. Benn was the best coming forward, obviously. In his very early career he probably had the fastest hands.

Watson was a better technician than Eubank and Benn, but not as outstanding. He was could be a smooth operator and also kept his hands up the most, and was ofcourse the most sensible of the three.

Eubank had the most awkward style, trying to evade shots instead of blocking them but looking poor when forced to come forward. Eubank was talented, his movements looked good, but technically he wasn't very good.

Hey, OASIS_LAD. Did you know that Eubank worked Naseem Hamed's corner at the Junior European Cup in the Costa Del Sos? It was a few hours before Herol Graham fought Julian Jackson.
