His dad flew him to the South Bronx in 1982 to live with his mum (after years of being a master thief and homeless in rough parts of southern and eastern London), in the South Bronx Eubank attended Morris High School and started training at the Jerome Boxing Club on Westchester Avenue. Within two years he won the 1984 Spanish Golden Gloves (a one-off tournament held for those who didn't go to the National Golden Gloves, it was sponsored by Spanish newspapers in New York City). Within four years he graduated from school. He'd first turned pro (in boxing) to help pay his mums bills, then a few years later he was spotted by former Brighton boxer Ronnie Davies at the Town Hall in Hove when he was having a boxing bout because he had no money (Davies had just started promoting bouts at the Town Hall), Davies instantly saw the talent and potential in Eubank and talked him(Eubank) into letting him(Davies) become his(Eubank's) trainer. Eubank started bad-mouthing Nigel Benn in 1988, although it wasn't trash-talk as such because Eubank strangely made it appear as if he was from the silver spoon society (which wasn't the case!) and began saying that he'd school Benn which was crazy seeing as Eubank had come from nowhere and nobody knew who the heck he was or how good he was. Eubank quit boxing at one point in 1988 and quit boxing again at one point in 1989, but Davies kept nagging Eubank to stick to boxing and telling him he had potential. When Barry Hearn signed him in September 1989, he promised Eubank a Benn fight within 18 months if Eubank kept winning. The rest is history I guess.
