Martinez not getting Cotto first will make the Golovkin fight less likely. He's definitely not going to fight Golovkin after a long layoff so he'll go for a Rubio tuneup in Argentina. And then Cotto would probably be available after he fights Rubio so no Golovkin in sight.

I knew Top Rank was going to raise the offer but not blow it out of the park like this, Seems Arum is desperate and having Cotto with Top Rank means more than just 1 fight. He also plans to use Cotto events to promote Felix Verdejo. That is why Verdejo is fighting on a Cotto promoted card in 2 weeks and probably will be in an undercard bout for Cotto events in the future.

Here is how i see it

          Cotto gets 15 M

          Martinez gets 5 M

The fight sells 700k on PPV which equals around 42 Million, after 50 ^ of that goes to the PPV providers there is enough to pay both fighters purses. Top Rank is gonna make their money from the gate. 23k sold tickets at an average of lets say 120 bucks equals
2.7 Million so its a win win situation for everybody

What if Cotto loses to the ginger? He could retire or take a year off. After Rubio Sergio may not have any other options.

He'd still chase Cotto because he's still the biggest money fight he could get.
Sergio isn't putting himself at a risk to lose out to a Cotto fight

He'll chase Canelo. Dibella wants Cotto or Canelo next.

If they don't get Cotto in June they will fight Rubio and try to make a deal with the winner. I don't know how the networks will work it out but they will try if both sides want it bad enough.

The combination of Martinez coming of a Cotto win and Golovkin fighting a couple mores time on HBO could potentially lead a a semi-marketable PPV at the end of 2014 and Martinez would have more incentive to fight Golovkin. Canelo getting Canelo first really does nothing because there's no chance Martinez will fight Golovkin for his comeback fight

i read from a couple of sources that cotto was paid two million for rodriguez. rodriguez made 160K, and that's why the purse was so high for cotto.

much of that is on HBO for overpaying. they paid more money in total for edwin rodriguez and ward.
