I'm just not a fan of compubox numbers, and it's just filler to me when you go over them in your monday columns. I tend to skip over those parts. I was like "nooo!", when you used the numbers in your title.
Otherwise, keep up the good work.
Ah, a matter of taste, then. I understand; I find them to have merit, but I can understand your take on it.
I was somewhat surprised to see Lamprey take a shining to the Thai guy considering how much showboating he did. I thought Jim would rip him for just being there and 'playing' at boxing and being there just for a paycheck.
Pacquiao may not seem to some to be the same "Pacman" that destroyed opponents in the past, but I think some important points need to be made here. First, this is Manny's first fight after suffering a devastating KO to Marquez nearly a year ago (BTW, he was working Marquez over before he got caught). Before that, he had a lackluster performance that had him losing a very controversial decision against Bradley. Those factors, along with the many suggestions that he is shot, had to at least put his self-confindence in question. And let's not forget Rios. He has never been stopped. He's bigger than Pacquiao. This is only his second loss as a pro. Alvarado (Who's more Rios' size), hit him with everything but the kitchen sink, yet he appeared to really hurt Rios only once in their second fight. The man's chin is like iron. I had predicted that Pacquiao would stop Rios in round 5 or 6, but in reality, it was just wishful thinking because Rios and his crew are ****s. The bottom line for me is that Manny put on a brilliant boxing exhibition where he peppered a bigger man with an iron chin. He didn't knock him out, but he did kick his punk ass.

Cheers, and thanks again.

Compubox numbers (assuming they're accurate), provide a nice analytical breakdown of what went on in the fight. I find them informative and useful. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with them.

I was put off by Max Kellygirl talking about How Manny isn't as good as he was before. Pacquiao clearly out-boxed and out-classed Rios, who has never been stopped, and only beaten once before this fight. That's not bad for a fighter coming off of two consecutive defeats- one of them a KO. I used to think that Maxi was a bright young student of the sport, but he seems to be transforming into a smart ass like Larry Merchant.

Reason: clean up.

That's why, no idea how accurate they are. Also, rounds shouldn't just be judged by how many punches are landed, some of them may be flicking jabs and grazing shots whereas the other guy may be landing big shots and doing some real damage. All of that has to be taken into account.
