Roach. He turned Ruslan from an ESPN Friday Night fighter to a legit HBO world champion.

        Angel Garcia.

Who else has trained a "slow, one-dimensional underdog, with nothing more than a looping hook" to dismantle a beast who had knocked down all 34 of his previous opponents and was supposed to win by brutal destruction?

        Nobody.

This is true. I totally forgot Ruslan is trained by Roach.

          Ruslan
          Cotto
          Pacquiao

I think Roach should win trainer of the year

I think people are seeing it as a quality vs. quantity situation.

It's the consensus that Pac and Cotto didn't face respectable opposition. Ruslan went 1-1 this albeit both good performances (the win without Freddie in the corner), and Shiming is being spoon-fed weak opponents from what I hear...

imo Roach hasn't outdone R. Garcia this year, especially if Maidana can pull off a victory against Broner

Mayweather sr. Is a great trainer, he vastly improved hatton and he never looked better in demolishing mallignaggi. He did great things with de la Hoya too.
we are discussing "trainer of the YEAR". no point in bringing up fighters floyd sr. worked with years ago.

i agree floyd sr. is a GREAT trainer, i believe at the moment, he is working with MMA guys.... other than floyd, who else has he lead to victory THIS YEAR. thats why i believe he is not listed.

dont forget garcia was in the corner for the embarassment of donaire/rigo. i like garcia, he is doing great with mikey. but rios & donaire were tough losses for the garcia camp.

Cotto and Pacquiao shouldn't even be in the discussion. Rios and Devlin are B and C class fighters respectively and me and you could have coached Cotto and Pacquiao to win those fights.

What Roach has done with Ruslan however is unbelieveable. I remember watching him on ESPN and thinking hes an average brawler but since then he's been on a war path lol

If Maidana beats Broner convincingly then yea I would say R. Garcia deserves it. Highly unlikely though, I feel like Broner is going to eat Maidana alive on the inside.

Donaire and Rios could have had Angelo Dundee in their corner for the Rigondeaux and Pacquiao fights respectively and it still wouldn't have made a difference. Therefore those loses shouldn't really count against Garcia.

i think it comes down to hunter & roach... garcia had a great 2012, but rios & donaire losses hurt.
