Groves needs to thank the ref.
5 seconds later and Groves would/could have been out cold on the ground, but since the ref stepped in too early, there's all this misconception that he was 'robbed', he was robbed of carrying on, not winning the fight ...
He lives to fight another day, to get a rematch and a pay day; 5 seconds later and he would be back to journeyman status from getting KO'd by a man who fought bravely to return from a round 1 KD, but let's pretend the first 6 rounds were the entire 9.Comment

anyone here back ups froch dont know **** bout boxing, the kid schooled him, he doesnt hev any skills, he just want to land some big bomb, he dont deserve that title, and that ugly fat ref is absolutely wanker, froch is more hurt in round 1, y he didnt stop the fight??? yeahh he hurt groves but atleast give him standing 8 counts, feel sorry for groves, u shud hev won 8 rnds to 4
And you know so much about boxing you can score a 12 round fight when the last 3 rounds never happened, and Groves was fading fast and being punished halfway through the 9th?
Froch was outboxed for large parts of the fight but anyone with a working pair of eyes could see he was starting to walk through Groves and hurt him. Groves did brilliantly but he was fading, and a fading fighter in the late rounds is meat and drink to Froch.
The stoppage was too early yes, but it's actually done Groves career a big favour because in all likelyhood he would have been stopped, instead he's a martyr on the end of a 'robbery'.
Froch's interview also did Groves a favour and himself none.
I'm not sure why the hate for Froch though, he was dropped hard, outboxed yet played his part in another tremendous battle, showed an iron chin and huge heart yet again and looked like he was going to pull an unlikely win out of the bag.Comment

Groves' legs were sagging, his head was down, his arms flailing (not punching), and he was taking clean shots to the head without being able to defend himself. If Groves is as clever as he likes to think he is, he would have taken a knee.Comment

I've just said above that it was too early. But to suggest Froch should have been stopped in the 6th when he was walking forwards and throwing punches is completely ridiculous.
Maybe Groves' inexperience cost him, maybe he shouldn't have turned away, maybe he should have clinched - but he stopped clinching when he started tiring and took punishment instead.
It's a bit ridiculous calling it a robbery, even if Froch was 6-2 down he was on his way to a minimum 10-8 round and would have been 2 or 3 points down with 3 rounds to go.
Who looked the stronger fighter in rounds 8 + 9 and who looked like he was fading?
It was never a robbery in a million years, it was a premature stoppage that denied us all, including both fighters, a proper finish to the fight.Last edited by NorvernRob; 11-24-2013, 10:19 AM.Comment

I went onto twatter to get a view of what groves was saying and this is an interesting picture
Someone the ref knows says he saw him on tv and makes a prediction on the fight which the ref "likes". As it turns out Howard Foster actually did stop the fight in round 9
https://mobile.twitter.com/siepod/st...749184/photo/1that looks dodgy as hell.
