Rios is just terrible and he fought like he had no game plan. He was throwing sloppy punches to the body and then tried to go upstairs, and that's basically it. He's slow, flat footed without any movement, and he isn't a smart boxer.
is rios terrible or is pacquio just that good?

I'm reading a lot of knee jerk reaction from some that are ignoring the fact that styles make fights.
Brandon Rios is a top 10 welterweight. He has world class stamina, power, and one hell of a chin. He had some success tonight when he jabbed but his plan of stalking Pacquiao to push him around, trying to land bombs was predictable and a pretty weak strategy. Rios does not have the speed to catch Pacquiao, nor does he move well enough to keep up with him. That's what I said before the fight, and it was correct.
Manny Pacquiao, as polarizing as he is to many here for some who don't like him, is a special fighter. He has slowed down, but the current version is still better than 99% of the other fighters out there. He is still elite and a top 5 or so pound-for-pound guy. I think it was around the 5th round when he landed a huge straight left hand that buckled Brandon's knees, and I believe if he had risked getting hit he could have knocked him out.
Brandon Rios just never had what it takes to beat Manny Pacquiao. That's pretty much the story of what happened tonight, and I suspect in a few days from now we won't be talking about this fight because there's just not much to say.Last edited by broblin; 11-24-2013, 01:37 AM.Comment

He is certainly not a top 10 welter. SmhI'm reading a lot of knee jerk reaction from some that are ignoring the fact that styles make fights.

Yep if Rios opened up more I think Pacquiao could have stopped him. Rios is very tough but Pacquiao is one of the greats.Comment

I think Brandon did the best he could do. He was forced to play more defensive than we expected because (despite what he said after the fight) Manny was hurting him, and he did not want to get knocked out. Everything he did was fruitless, and I don't know what they were expecting to accomplish with their game plan. I mean reallly... jab, push him around, and hope to land a huge punch on the inside?
This is Manny Pacquiao we're talking about here, Brandon, not Mike Alvarado.Comment
