There's no consistency in the refereeing, if your going to be overly cautious and overprotective you need to be that way with both fighters.

He's let George's rep as being chinny and Carl's rep as a ferocious puncher and finisher influence him there. It's not his job to try and predict what might happen if he lets the fight go on, wether froch would have finished him in that round or the 10th is irrelevant.

If you argue that the ref is supposed to look out for the health of a fighter first and foremost then he's only looked out for the health of one fighter here.
Which fighter was speaking with clarity after the fight and which fighter couldn't even remember being knocked down.

There absolutely needs to be a rematch. I expect froch to make adjustments but if if groves sticks to his jab in the next fight I think he takes it.
Sad part for Groves is I don't know if he will. He fought the PERFECT fight for the night and the circumstance. He was in Froch's head from the fight lead up and executed a plan on a cold Froch, planting him in the 1st round and earning his respect and seriously buzzing him for a couple rounds. Froch did not recover from that shot for a few rounds, was foggy and off. Groves did all the big damage during those rounds but once the buzz wore off Froch got comfortable and started finding his swaggar and that's when he started finding success. Without a stunning shot like the one he dropped Froch with in round 1, I don't know if Groves does as well. And it sucks because he did as well as he should have, when he should have and in a rematch that may not be the situation.

There's a difference between being knocked down and tagged repetitively. Froch was saved by the bell and Groves didn't follow up on the knock down so we'll never know. I agree the stoppage was premature but there's no "inconsistency" here.

      • Great bout ruined by a bad ending.

Saying that, I don't want to see a single Froch fan ever ***** about Ward using illegal tactics again. Froch was ridiculous with the fouls last night.

All we saw here was Froch constantly hitting during the break

I'm not just referring to the knockdown, what about the barrage of punches in the 6th, would that not be classed as being tagged repetitively.

I mentioned the knockdown because froch had to be reminded he was dropped in the post fight interview. A clear indication of which fighter had been allowed to take the most punishment.

The perfect fight is not engaging with froch at every opportunity.

                Absolute rubbish.

I understand that as long as Froch uses dirty tricks Ward would be entitled to do the same or even more... Interesting point of view... What if I'm not a Froch's fan?
