Former WBC cruiserweight champ and WBC heavyweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez, 52-3 and 40 years old, is on the comeback trail and back to cruiser. In his second fight in November he headlines a show at the CU Hall on the outskirts of Hamburg on Saturday (Nov 23). There´s been some late changes of opponents but the latest version is that Gomez will take on Czech veteran Jindrich Velecky, 19-25, in a scheduled eight-rounder.

why would he waste his time at CW? he should of stayed at HW & got into better shape.

His goal is a fight against Huck and it would be a big fight in germany. Gomez is still well known in germany and has some fans here. Cruiserweight is a great weight class btw. And Gomez was never able to carry his power to heavyweight. But it might be to late now.

I doubt he will get that far. when he was CW champion the limit was 190 & he cherry picked softer touches in Europe. when he went to HW he went the European route to a title shot by beating sam & 42 year old McCall. he is & always has been a protected fighter. he wasted he last several years of his career & a drop down to CW will not go well for him much like chambers & james toney before him...
