marquez played the matador; he encouraged pacquiao to fight more aggressively because he gambled that he could withstand it and land a perfect counterpunch. the plan worked to perfection.

That's the way I saw it too. Instead of being so cautious and deliberate like in their previous meetings Marquez decided to leave himself open more in the fourth fight. In order to draw Pacquiao out.

It was a risky move but it played out well for him in the end.

Exactly Why Marquez Took Half As Much $$$ Fighting Bradley Instead Of Pacquiao!

Marquez knew as hard as he trained for that fight, he was running out of gas, losing on all scorecards before he landed his Hail Mary. He knows it won't get better in a 5th fight, and he won't get lucky again. Nobody takes a 50% cut in pay to fight Bradley as opposed to Pac. Marquez saw him get drummed by Pacquiao and the fix was in to steal the title and give to Bradley. He also saw how little known at the time, Provo beat Bradley to an inch of his life. So Marquez saw Bradley as little risk, half the money, and an easy belt to capture, then ride off into the sunset. Didn't work so well for JMM's strategy. He took a loss, complains as only Marquez does every time he loses a decision. Then begs for a rematch. Yet Manny who gave Marquez 4 fights can't get one rematch for double the money, for Marquez. Marquez KNOWS he can't beat Pacquiao.
