Each time Dawson has lost, I've always hoped that he bounces back. No different this time. Granted he seems like a bit of a prick on-camera, and clearly there's something wrong with him "up there" because of his penchant for changing trainers like underwear, but I still like his boxing style when he was at his best around 2007-09.
Chad who.. Chad.. Ohhh, Chad Dawson that guy. Nah he is done. Mentally weak, confused and no sense of direction inside or outside the ring. He needs to go apologize to Scully, get his mind right, man the **** up and become a new man. Once he sorts that out, he can figure out what he wants to do.
He could offer Hopkins a rematch to avenge the loss. What other way is he getting back on TV?
Agreed. Not that id want to see the fight, it would be boring and messy again. But in regards to Chad's career, it would be a smart move, Hopkins though may not be interested in a 3rd fight. As much as i'm not impressed by Dawson, his skill set and age advantage give him the nod on a current B-Hop. Dawson should just call him out and try to get his name back in the mix!
I think he was at his best with Dan Birmingham... Dawson was aggressive, fast, and looked very strong when trained by him and, he actually walked his opponents down.
Dawson is not mentally weak, he's demonstrated that on numerous occasions; he's gotten hurt or knocked down and continued to dominate fights. Mentally weak fighters fold when hit with the adversity he's faced (KD by Harding and Adamek, hurt by G Johnson, going into overdrive when cut against Pascal, KD numerous times by Ward before calling it quits; when you've done ).
Chad's main issue is and has been his physical weakness... Despite his physique, he lacks physical strength and is usually at a disadvantage so he has to rely solely on his speed and skills to deal with the top of the division, but when his opponent also has excellent speed/quickness (Pascal, Ward, Stevenson), he has 2 disadvantages that he can't afford to have at the top level.
Unless he finds a way to improve his strength, they're going to have to keep him away from the fighters he's lost to (who were/are the 3 worst opponents' he could have fought). I'd give him an excellent shot at defeating any other fighter in the division, including Kovalev.
Hope he gets back on track, but I have doubts. Problem is no one can tell him what to do. He thinks he knows it all. Not so bright dropping a division for the Ward fight. Not smart getting way behind vs Pascal. The list goes on. And yeah, get a trainer and stick with him. Listen to him. Frustrating since he has alotta talent.
