2 fights left on his HBO deal, Rubio won't be on HBO, Cotto gets one, somebody gets another.... earliest would be 2015 for him to finish his HBO contract and go to Showtime

If cotto fights canelo and loses. Then hbo will force martinez's hand and say ggg is the only fight we want. Martinez will either fight ggg or head to showtime in 2014. Dibella will most likely choose showtime and gbp fights just too avoid ggg. Mayweather being the goal. But getting martinez a canelo fight in the process

What if cotto fights canelo in march and loses? Then who are the opponents? Kirkland,tapia,andrade,barker/geale/sturm?

            For who? Sergio?
They'll still target Cotto. A Cotto loss would hurt the money they could have made, but it'd still be more than almost anybody else in the division. It helps Golovkin in a way because Cotto's stock drops a little while he's continually raising his

In all fairness GGG only been in the spotlight for about a year and 2 solid wins with Macklin and Stevens. He deserves the Serg fight about just as much as Thruman deserves the Floyd fight if we were being honest and unbiased. I like GGG but honestly Serg is on his way out. I understand from a money standpoint if he skips the fight for Cotto or Canelo. And prime for prime I think he could have beat GGG.

I get your drift, but GGG is not Thurman, and Sergio is definitely not Floyd. GGG is rated #1 contender in every rating, and Sergio's promoter is pretty much conceding his guy has zero chance

At this point I kind of feel the same. I honestly wouldn't want to see an aging serg taking a pounding until he Ko'd when we all know he not at his best. I know it's boxing and the best should fight the best. But I think we can all agree at this point no one believes Serg the best middleweight now. He looked terrible his last fight and has to many injuries as of late. As far as Thurman I think he has similarities to GGG in that no one really wants to fight him and he can box and ****.

Do you disagree with that? Sergio has every right to chase his pay day... But with that comes him holding the "MW crown" hostage and not fighting the number 1 contender. And if that's the case, people shouldn't give Sergio an unofficial fantasy win against Golovkin or say "oh but Golovkin never beat the REAL man at 160, etc
Very much how I see it^. Maravilla has been an excellent MW champ even disregarding he coulda been at 154 and for me is also one of the better guys in the sport - both entertaining in the ring and humane without. Begrudging him the paydays he worked so hard for feels unfair, but equally the heir apparent, Golovkin sorta deserves (at least in the eyes of boxing fans) to have the shot at the lineal crown.

You can never tell tho. I think there has been hints coming outta the Martinez camp that a GGG fight will happen, but I think it'll only be when Sergio is ready to hang them up. 'Course if Sergio loses in the meantime to any of his proposed opponents (Rubio, Cotto, and less likely Canelo) he also loses his leverage for a GGG payday.

That's the result that I'd find most unsatisfying - a 154 fighter gaining the MW lineal title, possibly at a catchweight, while the most legitimate 160 lineal contender doesn't get a look-in wouldn't feel right to me.

I know you're not trying to put GGG down but despite only having been promoted heavily in the US since the Proksa fight, he's actually been a MW beltholder only a few months less than Maravilla (just shy of 3 years now) and had more defenses - despite a generally lower quality of opposition.

Thurman has done extremely well and oughta go far, but isn't a long established champion with 9 defenses in the way Golovkin is. Big fan of Keith FWIW, but GGG is actually far more justified than Thurman as the second longest serving Champ in his division.
