Comments Thread For: Helenius Settles Sauerland Dispute, Eyes Return

The Nordic Nightmare, Robert Helenius, 19-0, has begun sparring for a planned comeback in early 2014. Helenius and his new team have also settled the contractual dispute with Team Sauerland and according to Chris Meyer they are now discussing a co-promotion deal.

Helenius is now trained by his father Kalle and will fight out of Finland. Robert has had only two fights since December of 2011 when he won a controversial points win over Dereck Chisora but suffered bad hand and shoulder injuries.

Good to hear the Nordic Nightmare getting back on track. He's a very capable hw, with good power, range and boxing skills. In 2008-2009 he looked like he was on a collusion course with one of the KBros but since then he's been plagued with injuries and management issues.

Kinda doubt Wilder gets past Helenius. Robert has more boxing skill than Wilder... he isn't just some giant target to pound on. You may be thinking of Fury. HA

About time Robbe had a change of trainer. Anyone would be better than that old bumbling fool Ulli Wegner. I have never seen a trainer who constantly offers such useless advice to his fighters, and often when they appear to be hopelessly on the verge of losing (Abraham, Helenius, Huck, Murat, etc.)

          "Rechts! Links! Rechts!!! Links!!!"

If only Steward were still around. I think he would've been the perfect trainer to get Helenius out of his now 3-fight rut.

Without a doubt. It's those reasons which have made it so hard for me to give up on him completely, but 3 consecutive outings where someone looks like garbage is enough to make anyone tune out. Even the Epix team, especially DiBella, have made it clear he's on thin ice in terms of 'must-watch' value.

Not to mention a strange, debilitating habit of NOT FUCKING THROWING ANYTHING AND JUST STANDING THERE DOING FUCK-ALL. And they say Wladimir is gunshy...

Chisora was robbed of a victory but I also feel that Helenius could have won had he not broken his hand in the 1st round.

Not sure whether his hand will recover bit I'd love to see a rematch....

yes it is good to hear. I still would like to see him & chisora do it again. it could happen considering chisora holds the European title. hopefully the injuries are past him. between helenius, haye & boytsov their injuries have taken some of the prime years away.

                "walking gear"

Karl Helenius, the father of Robert who is training him now, said that the only thing that Sauerland/Ulli did right was to get Roberts stamina and condition on track. In the end he could and did run 10 km every second day but was not able to move in the ring. Robert has now said that the "walking gear" stuck on in the ring. Ulli didnīt care if Helenius hands was hurting constantly. The physical training was mostly that of hitting the bag. Finnish coaches that saw how they tied Roberts hands in training were amazed by the ignorance of doing the job properly. They used "old rags" said one who saw it. This ignorance resulted to chronic infections in the hand. One must remember Helenius hits extra hard

Now Helenius is saying he wants to get the movement in the ring back. He started some light sparring last week. He said heīs gotta get rid of the ring rust. He has been trraining only physics last couple of months. He has not been hitting even the bag for 3 months. He knows there is a lot of work ahead of him. “I want to get my feet and body moving better in the future. In Germany I got lots more of tuffness, but moveability went bad. I want to be a slick moving HW in the future. The "walking gear" stuck on in the ring and now we gotta get rid of that "walking style". It takes a while when I am gonna find my own old style again”. Says Helenius

                  ...
Interesting read. Makes sense too, considering every one of Wegner's fighters invariably ends up becoming a stationary robot once the bell rings. As I said, just look at Abraham, Huck, Murat, etc. If a different coach could instill some killer instinct within Helenius (something that every real Finn possesses!), meaning letting his hands go and boxing intelligently behind the jab, then he could once again be a dangerous force in the division.
