Are fighters who succumb to criticism mentally weaker?

Are fighters who take criticism from fans to heart mentally weaker than those who continue to be who they are?

The fighters who are labeled as "boring" or "runners" by naive fans are some of the best fighters in the world and it shows in their undefeated records against top quality opponents. Now how about those who are called "boring" or "runners" that actually listen to their critics and attempt to please these naive fans? Care to tell me what happens to them? They LOSE trying to please the drunk idiots in the crowd and at home.

I remember when people were booing Alexander when he fought Bailey, He stayed composed disciplined and pitched a perfect fight. If he had tried to brawl it out like some bar fighting idiot he could've gotten stopped like Pacquiao or Mares. That's what happens when fighters listen to the causal fans that want blood in every fight. Think about how long Money and The Alien have lasted in the sport. They never succumb to the pressures of causal fans or haters. They know what needs to be done and they do it.

Crawford recently tweeted that fighters needed to stop listening to fans that want them to brawl and fight intelligently and I agree with him completely.

It depends really. If you're labelled 'boring' and a 'runner' by some boxing 'fans' like Mayweather is and still pulling in huge PPV numbers why would you change?

On the other hand if you're labelled 'boring' and a 'runner' and are bringing in terrible numbers and getting $10,000 a fight it stands to reason that you are more likely to change your fighting style. I don't believe that makes you mentally weak, It just means that you want to start getting paid. The awkward thing is, once you've been labeled its very hard to change public opinion and you might still get those ****y paychecks.

pressure fighters/brawlers changing their style is good for the sport and for the fighter itself. Technical/defensive boxing is the superior style. Not changing something that brings you failure is ******. But if you're successful like Money, The Alien, S.O.G etc changing your style is ******.

Trout was one of the most talented fighters in the game but he changed his style to fight Canelo trying to please the casual fans and he lost (I thought it could've gone either way) Same goes for Lara, he changed his style to fight Bumgulo and he almost got stopped. Add Peterson- Matthysse aswell. They were trying to change their "boring" stigma off their back and it ended disastrously.

Talk about the worst possible example of a fighter changing their style to be crowd pleasing. Peterson, an inside fighter no one considered boring, tries to box and gets knocked out, and this was somehow him trying shake a boring stigma.

Really, it's amazing how wrong that entire paragraph is.

Money changed his style to fight Cotto and Castillo and he looked bad. He clearly won but he looked off. Those were the only fights were I critiziced Money. He could've easily UD'd them and even stopped Cotto but he was trying to please the casual fans.

Bradley was trying to please the fans against Provonaitakove and he looked pretty bad despite beating him. He went back to his old self against Marquez and he toy'd with him winning a one sided beating. He went back to the style that got him a close decision over Pacquiao

The Alien was trying to please the causal fans and he took some bad fouls from Murat as a result.

Same goes for Direll vs Abraham/Froch

I hope Rigo doesn't listen to Bob's "boring" foolishness
