    Steak and Lobsters with Caviar?

i think dibella was referring to rodriguez. rodirguez' kids have serious health complications, and he hasn't been making a ton of money forever. i wouldn't be surprised if they really "needs the money." they surely aren't going hungry, but they've got bills to pay like everybody else.

part of your job as a promotor is to lie. another part of it is to misrepresent the truth. dibella is about as straight a shooter as you're going to find in boxing, and i appreciate his candor.

this is a bad situation all over. it would be a massive dent to the careers of both fighters if this fight falls through.

what i don't like is the timing. if the press releases are properly illustrating the timeline (and i'm reading them correctly,) it seems as though the fight was "on" last night, and was then put into jeopardy again under advisement of ward's lawyer / management, who said that the contract stipulated a larger concession for missing weight.

i'm pretty new to twitter, but i've been following the west coast writers to try and get a better grip on what's going down. they all hate andre ward, rofl, and are painting him as the bad guy. i guess he's extremely rude to them. he's never struck me as a "good guy." it's impossible to be professional with somebody when they're rude to you, so i don't blame them for raking ward over the coals.

i'm going to be hugely disappointed if this thing falls through.

Told that local gyms were given freebies to Ward-Rodriguez by a good source. #boxing

Yea, i feel bad again because I didn't know it. I didn't know much about his family, just E-Rod throws wide ass punches.
I assume whenever somebody says that, they're using the take the food of my family's table bit (Bradley, Mayweather and a couple of others).

        • i'm also reading that rodriguez "only" put on 10 lbs overnight, which was below their goal. he's going to be drained for sure.

He had to though right? The rest of the rehydration starts after the weigh in

evidently he needed to be within / under 10 lbs more than last nights's weight by 9am west coast time, but i'm not too sure if those numbers i've heard are correct.

a gallon of water isn't much less than 10 lbs, and i'd guess that they're well below their goal due to the weight stipulated for the rehydration. he probably still feels like crap.

ward and rodriguez' lawyers are earning their money right now. i can picture virgil hunter with a corn cob pipe, peering over his lawyer's shoulder, with money on his mind

              • I know fighters are motivated by different things, but I never understood the family thing. Doesn't that make you soft? Doesn't that make you wanna quit so you can see them again? I think fighters who are motivated by their own pride, fighters who are willing to die in the ring, are more resilient.

He's not the worst but he's not the most honest, either.

Yea, he couldn't weigh more than 180 by 9 am PST.
He came in at 179.8... so he has to try and hydrate more now

who is more candid than lou dibella?

some of the european promotors aren't shy about "avoiding" guys, but none of the american promotors would talk about a world champion in the light that dibella's begun to discuss martinez and golovkin.

he did some dumping on golovkin early on (fought nobody, "gennady who," etc,) but lately he's changed his tune to the fight simply "not making monetary sense for a 38 year old world champion." there's a very honest interview with dibella about martinez' exit strategy, and the cotto fight, where dibella explains that he's just trying to make sergio the most money before he retires. that's candor that you don't see regularly from a promotor.

don king will stare into your eyes and do whatever is in his power to con you. he's one of the most prolific liars in history. only in america.
