I think the point is that it is surprising that GBP were offering him less to fight their US world champ, than DBP were to fight their Irish contender.

It looks as if Schaefer was assessing the chance at a title at a good proportion of the potential purse. Sharp banking brains. I still recall how Zab Judah took a much smaller purse to get the chance to fight Cory Spinks again. And it paid off when he KOd him.
