Comments Thread For: Burns' Promoter on The Beltran/Crawford Situation

WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11KOs) will not be forced into a fight with mandatory challenger Terence Crawford, according to Burns' promoter Eddie Hearn. Last Friday the WBO ordered Hearn and Top Rank to negotiate a potential Burns-Crawford clash. The first option for Burns is a rematch with Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17KOs). During their September fight, which ended in a draw, Burns was dropped and suffered a badly broken jaw. Nearly every ringside observer felt Beltran should have won. Burns wants to set things straight against Beltran in February.

Honestly, Burns needs more time off.
I'm sure they'll try to have the fight in Scottland as more people will come out to see it....just be prepared for Crawford

and people wonder why this sport gets no respect,,

burns and co are basically saying we are going to ignore and dodge crawford to rematch the cherrypick that i struggled with and got a gift draw against

Surely it makes sense for Burns to settle the score one way or another against Beltran? Most people had Beltran winning the fight and Burns' camp seem to actually agree that a draw was largely undeserved. It is not like Crawford has been waiting on the shelf for ages. He'll get his shot soon enough even if it isn't against Burns. If Beltran beats Burns then Crawford-Burns wasn't as significant a fight to begin with.

Beltran deserves a rematch more than Crawford deserves a title shot. Hopefully Beltran can get that rematch and when he beats Ricky again, then he can fight Crawford.

So you don't think Beltran deserves an immediate rematch?

Not quite, they're saying they'll fight Crawford (in Scotland) if they have to but prefer the Beltran rematch or a unification fight.

Beltran does deserve the rematch though. He put up a great effort. So I don't think Ricky should get blamed for taking that fight. Crawford will get his chance eventually. But Ricky needs to settle the score against Beltran.

Due to the ridiculous judging, Beltran-Burns II should come before anything else.

If Top Rank is in the way of it, then screw Top Rank. Hopefully they come around.
