Comments Thread For: Murray: No Golovkin Deal, But We're on The Same Card

Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11KOs) has denied several reports that were circulating in the UK, which suggested the boxer had reached an agreement to face WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs) on February 1 in Monte Carlo.

Murray did confirm that a fight with Golovkin may come in the near future, because the British contender is also going to see action on the same card in Monte Carlo. Murray will first stay sharp with a keep-busy fight on November 23rd on the Froch-Groves undercard in Mancherster.

I guess they must have a deal worked out to fight in the US and this is build up. Don't see why Golovkin's team couldn't just try to force the fight by making it go to purse bid.

Is Murray his mandatory? And how can you force a purse bid if there is no problems with negotiation?

Yeah, WBA ordered that they had to face each other next. As far as problems, I guess there isn't any. Seems HBO wants the fight to happen in the US, otherwise I figure K2 would force the purse bid instead of allowing Murray on the same card.

Or maybe they're all just bull****ing and they're waiting to make a proper surprise announcement for Golovkin vs Muray after Murray's next fight.

Murray isn't allowed in the US. So how they going to fight now? Seems an obvious ploy by Team Murray to avoid the fight even further.

This sucks but if you think about it this makes the most sense to set up a summer blockbuster between them since Sergio is either getting paid vs Cotto or taking care of his mandatory Rubio.

I hope its Murray vs Barker and GGG vs Vera. Thatd be so fn epic to set up the showdown. Vera would definitely give GGG a god damn fight too.

Murray could get a visa to fight in Canada. So why not put it on there if HBO want it that side of the pond?

GGG should just move to 168, beat some contenders, and then fight Ward. Nobody is willing to risk fighting him at 160.
