Two fighters that I love to watch, Mendez tends to fall asleep with his activity while Garcia is always alert, I'd pick Garcia.

Yea I sparred Mendez a lot while at he was at Gleasons before relocating to FL but he still comes back and forth to brooklyn. Some family is still here. Great guy. Mendez too finessed for anyone at 130 even 135 he could reign well IMO

Thanks for the info. I feel the same way...guy has a nice set of skills. I just feel like he is a hidden gem and needs more exposure. He is an excellent boxer. I hope Garcia and Mendez meet in 2014...crossing my fingers.

Also, Mendez needs better promotion and a wayyy better manager.

The thing is Mendez' work rate can be low sometimes but at that moment he is studying you intensely and you feel that pressure while hes on the ropes or moving backwards even if hes not throwing anything. Plus, hes not an A,B,C boxer which if he does hes extremely good at but hes constantly adapting and learning. He's extremely cerebral in his approach and coupled with his physical gifts he's a more than a handful for anyone. He's legit. There does seem to be an agenda to keep him away but that could mostly be in part due to his following which isnt very big. Good but not big money big.

Yes, I completely agree. I think his low work rate is his worse flaw. I always feel like if the fight is close he might not get the nod because of that. I also think that it maybe cuz his stamina is not all that great so he tends to pace himself? Maybe you have better info on that but thats what I have observed ever since I started following him. But one thing I can say is that he has improved a lot since he first started. I love his defense.

He can possibly* have a stamina issue but imo from all the experience learn3d from him hes just cerebral. He always said "oye loco. Yo no tiro por tirar. Yo te estudio y ya" which I definitely believe at the utmost. He just rather layback and land extremely precise rather than throw just to throw. From working with Guzman at gleasons too his workrate was a bit better but they both shared the same mentality. They made it count not just throwing to throw especially while Joan works with Saxby. Guzmans' problem was always...in his exact words ...."mi problema es comer y el playstation" LMAO
