  • Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Cotto Also Has Option of Facing Quillin

BoxingScene.com reported earlier that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had a meeting with former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 21KOs) on Tuesday afternoon at the Golden Offices in Los Angeles. During the meeting, Schaefer offered Cotto more than $10 million dollars to face former champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) in the headline bout of a March 8th Showtime Pay-Per-View event.

Antother option for Cotto, although far less lucrative, would be a middleweight fight with WBC champion Sergio Martinez. But there are questions marks on when Martinez would be injury-free, and whether the World Boxing Council will sanction the fight when a mandatory is due to Marco Antonio Rubio.

Quillin win gives cotto chance to get floyd again even though imo no rematch is needed. after thanhe can fight canelo in nov.

Cotto might make 25 or so mil next year. Nice cash out plan.

He would have a much better chance in beating Quillin the Martinez

pete is very limited but I'd still say he'd knock cotto out. the man is a middleweight with one of the best left hooks in the game.

I certainly don't agree with that.

Even if he did have a better chance - Quillin is a paper champ. Martinez is THE champ. Better to lose to the real champ than the paper champ.

Quillin looked vulnerable last go around - but Rosado is a big, physical, strong fighter. Something Cotto is not at 154 - let alone 160. Cotto gets murked by Quillin. Martinez is aged to the point that Cotto can snag that win.

GBP trying to pimp Cotto to boost up their fighters. Can smell the **** roasting a mile away. If it ain't a Floyd rematch - Cotto should just carry on his business. Beating Canelo means nothing at this point other than $. Floyd whipped that dude 12-0. It's no longer a legacy fight. It's just a fight against a popular red-headed mexican

fck quillin, he a hoe. he hasn't done anything to deserve miguel cotto standing across from him. Cotto-Martinez is a great fight any way you look at it.

Haha. I was wondering why they didn't pitch this idea.

Quillin ain't no real champion man. If Cotto just wants to win 4 alphabet belts in 4 different weight classes, then by all means take it.

But looking back he won a 154 "title" over Yuri Foreman and would potentially win a 160 "title" over Peter Quillin. That's not really legacy defining **** to me but to each his own.

Lol do you really believe that or you're just letting people's opinion cloud your judgement?

Bad choice for Cotto. Quillin is way to big for him. If he wants a title go for GGG or barker.

Sergio is a more even fight with less of a size and power difference
