he'll still make more against Maritnez

if I were Cotto I'd be insulted by that offer

Cotto vs Alvarez is easily 1.5 million buys. that's 90 million which is really 45 after the cable/satellite providers get their cut

      10 million live gate

so out of the 55 million this fight could potentially earn Cotto only get 1/5

so Cotto's just getting a 20% cut and Canelo gets 80%

they need to offer at least 25 million.

Cotto knows that with Martinez he'll get the lion's share.

Cotto vs Martinez probably does around 1 million buys which is around 60 million but in reality 30

live gate will probably be around 10, so that's 40

Martinez will probably take the fight for 4 or 5 million (the most Martinez made was 3 against Chavez.

so that leaves 35 million for Cotto.

I know the math is over simplified but it's pretty clear Cotto will make a whole lot more than 10 million against Martinez than Canelo.

So Cotto would get 0 upside? IF the fight did that well and that would be outrageously good Cotto would probably be pushing 20 million if not more.

That is probably why Schaeffer is also kind of vague because Cotto would make for sure this but it could be a lot more.

Sure... Martinez should rather fight for free, only to make you "figures" more convincing.

Anyone who thinks this fight is doing 1.5 million is insane.

750k would be a major success.

People swear Canelo is a 1M+ viewer PPV fighter cause of the Mayweather PPV.

Cotto is in an excellent position. If what Schaefer is saying is true, then this is an easy choice. I think Canelo is an easier opponent than Sergio. I think Sergio destroys Cotto, but the Canelo fight is more interesting.

so cotto/canelo is going to do as much as cotto/mayweather? i doubt that.

i think gb is really overestimating canelo's drawing power. the mayweather could have launched him but it was so one sided and boring. if this fight does mayweather/guerrero numbers they should be happy.
