  • Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin Hopes To Fight Four Times in 2014

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs) tells BoxingScene.com that he is hoping to repeat his 2013 schedule by fighting four times in 2014. Golovkin started off the year by stopping Gabe Rosado in seven rounds on January 19th from the Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. He came back in March, in Monte Carlo, to drill Nobuhiro Ishida in three rounds. Then three months later he appeared in Foxwoods in Mashantucket to put away Matthew Macklin in five, and this past Saturday night, also at MSG's Theater, he stopped Curtis Stevens in eight rounds. Golovkin will start the new year off early, by defending his titles on February 1 in Monte Carlo.

It's possible, fights are opening up to.
If he really does get to fight Murray in Monaco, that'd be great.
Pirog is supposed to come back next year
Arum might finally let Koborov fight
    Martinez/Cotto winner in the fall

    People are available now

Chavez at 160lbs for less than 9mill, no way? Martinez needs a tune up fight, and Froch and Ward will move up to LHW by the time "the world conqueror" is there. C'mon people Golovkin is good and all, but he is not going to get those 4 fights. We can dream though

Golovkin is obviously content with fighting four stiffs in 2014 because, according to his promoter, he will not move up to 168 to fight Ward or Froch unless they pay him five times what he has been making to fight these stiffs. He is taking the Nonito Donaire/Saul Alvarez approach to stardom.

There is a Guillermo Rigondeaux in GGG's future. Unfortunately, he won't meet him until 2015.
