Now while I agree in the mythical pfp scale Cotto has most advantages over Chavez, in reality, he gets clobbered. For the previously stated reasons. It's 1 thing to stalk smaller men, without the power to ko middleweights. It's another entirely to stalk a bigger man, with more power and stamina. Suicidal even.

That still has absolutely nothing to do with boxing IQ. The fact that he dominated the fight before he made that particular decision is a better example of his boxing IQ than getting hurt in the 12th.Actually thats low boxing IQ. Sure thats considered heart and will to end the fight with a "****" but if that fight is already in your favor and you were dominating it, to put yourself in a situation that could very well cost you it, is just plain ******ity. You could still box and pick your shots but dont be an idiot and go toe toe and risk getting caught when you have clearly won 11 rounds.
Hell didn't Margarito stalk Cotto around the ring before brutally stopping Cotto. Where was his ring IQ then??Comment

This.
Not only that but when Sergio is forced to fight it usually has the opposite effect as intended by the opposition as Martinez pretty much starts putting a hurt on everyone.
Martinez has a higher IQ imo. He has to in order to have gotten through the middleweight division. When that doesn't work he goes into full on attack mode and Sergio is a natural killer. Its in his mind, you only have to see what happens when he gets hurt or they bring the fight out of him.
Stylistically Martinez seems like worst case scenario for Cotto. Bigger, faster, stronger, more skilled, not to mention Sergio's will...AND he's a soutpaw. Cotto does has one BIG thing going for him and that's Sergio's current/past state and age. Like someone said, Sergio cant fully train or use his legs fully last we heard and dude has a ton of wear on him by these big guys. Now... If his surgery and recovery went well and he is relatively healthy he should beat on Cotto pretty badly come later round (If Cotto doesnt get shocked early as Martinez does have that kind of power and Cotto isnt exactly walking around with granite)..
Whoever is saying Martinez showed no IQ in the 12th must not follow this sport as much as they think. It was thought it'd be damn near impossible for Martinez to win a decision seeing as he was fighting Jr through Arum.Last edited by NearHypnos; 11-02-2013, 03:39 PM.Comment

It has alot to do with boxing IQ. Boxing IQ= being smart in the ring. To pressure and go toe to toe after winning 11 rounds is not smart boxing. Chavez wasnt even hurt bad enough to continue pressure to finish him off. What was the result of Martinez's ******ity? He needs to thank the boxing gods that he was finished off. You dont put yourself in position like that, ever. That still has absolutely nothing to do with boxing IQ. The fact that he dominated the fight before he made that particular decision is a better example of his boxing IQ than getting hurt in the 12th.

Cotto was on the decline in the fight and getting beat up and in that spot yes you go for the finish. Your not going to be an idiot and play it safe IF your opponent is clearly beatin up and close to being KO'd.Comment
