The only accredited western reporter there at the fight was Scott Mallon of RING. He scored it 116-111 for John and in his report said that John won well. One of the Maxboxing guys was also there on vacation and saw the fight as well. His score was the same 116-111. It was either Doug Fischer or Steve Kim, I remember reading his account of the fight and saying he happened to be there on a vacation.
I've watched the fight several times. Anywhere else besides Indonesia Marquez would've won that fight. The only thing that made that fight close was the two bull**** point deductions. Marquez was pressing the action throwing and landing more. John was just trying counter and had some success countering but not enough to win that fight. As for the press scoring. I can't speak for them, judges make horrible decisions all the time ring side observers do the same thing. All I know is some people are easily persuaded by the reaction of the hometown crowd.

I had John winning this fight too. I don't see how this fight was a hometown robbery either way. I guess it has the perfect ingredients to be - Marquez, a legend, loses a fight in a guys hometown (where he usually fights).

Though I do respect your opinion of course

Funny that some are talking about how great John is while at the same time bragging about a "win" he had more than SEVEN YEARS AGO. He's been the classic example of a paper champion ever since, beating one nobody after another. His opposition since 2006 would be totally ridiculed if he fought anywhere outside of SE Asia

I always wondered what Chris John looked like. Nice to see him leave Indonesia.

No one cares about Chris John. I won't care until he fights one of these names, Gonzalez, mares, nonito, salido, juanma.
